Intensive Outpatient Program
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for substance use disorders is a structured treatment option that provides robust support and therapy for individuals battling addiction and/or mental health, with a level of intensity between just seeing a therapist or only taking medication and a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), where you stay in a program all day.
Here's the structure: In an IOP, you participate in the program for a few hours per session, five to three days a week. Our Intensive Outpatient Program in Orange County has two IOP options that run Monday through Friday. The first is our Morning IOP that runs from 9:30am until 12:30pm with a break in between. The second is our Afternoon IOP which starts at 1:00pm and ends at 4:00pm. Many of our clients like to attend a mix of morning and afternoon sessions depending upon their personalized treatment plan.
IOP Half-Day Treatment Program
Think of it as a part-time commitment to your health. The IOP schedule allows you to continue your daily activities, like school or a part-time job. In the addiction and/or mental health IOP, you engage in various therapeutic activities including group counseling, individual psychotherapy, and educational sessions about substance use and coping strategies.
It's an approach that balances the need for intensive support with the flexibility to maintain your everyday life, offering a practical route to recovery while managing school or work commitments.

Application & Practice
The IOP program enables immediate application of learned skills in real-life contexts. You learn to practice coping strategies in daily situations, enhancing effectiveness and promoting lasting behavioral change.
Flexibility & Accessibility
IOPs are designed for those needing treatment alongside daily independence. This approach is crucial for individuals who can't take extended time off, making therapy more accessible and manageable.
Integration & Routine
IOPs blend treatment with daily life, ideal for those with work or family commitments. This setup allows participants to continue their regular activities and daily routines while receiving essential support.
Being part of an IOP means you're courageously working towards a healthier, more balanced life every day.

Each day is structured to help you learn and practice new skills to manage your recovery. You'll have a mix of activities like group counseling, individual psychotherapy, psychiatric sessions, and life skills.
The Intensive Outpatient Program applies the Exist Clinical Model to individuals with mild to moderate concerns. There are two group counseling meetings per treatment day, and you need to attend at least three days a week. Throughout the week, you will meet with a personal therapist (to privately discuss your personal details), your case manager (who helps you get your life in order), and a doctor to develop a medication regimen for you, if desired.
How do you ensure my privacy and confidentiality in the program?
Your privacy and confidentiality are top priorities. We follow strict laws and guidelines to protect your personal information and ensure that what you share in the program stays confidential.
In California, intensive outpatient programs are bound by legal and ethical guidelines regarding confidentiality. Generally, the limits of confidentiality include situations where there is a risk of harm to you or others, suspected child or elder abuse, or when a court orders the release of information.
How long will I be in the program?
The length of time you spend in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) varies depending on your personal treatment goals. An IOP can last anywhere from a one month to four months.
We regularly assess how you're doing to make sure you're getting the right amount of support for as long as you need it. Our goal is to ensure you feel ready and confident to manage your recovery when you complete the program.
If you are only able to complete treatment within a certain timeframe, we will do our best to consider your wants while prioritizing your needs. Give us a call.
