The quick answer

How Magellan mental health coverage works here

Magellan is a behavioral-health benefits manager, and it often handles mental health coverage for an employer or a health plan. We check Magellan mental health coverage for PHP, IOP, and outpatient care at our clinic in Laguna Beach. Send a member ID and date of birth, and we write back within one business day. Benefits vary by plan, so we tell you exactly what Magellan said before you decide anything.

Magellan often runs the mental health benefit for an employer or a health plan.

How verification works

How we check a Magellan plan

You talk with our clinic in Laguna Beach, not a call center. With a member ID and a date of birth, we contact the plan and write back within one business day.

  1. A person seated on a low wooden bench in a cream plaster room, back to camera, facing a tall arched window with a mauve dusk sky and a thin line of sea.

    Reach out

Call (949) 670-9345 or send the verify form on our insurance page, and you talk with the clinic directly.

  2. A small closed dark leather wallet and a folded cream linen cloth on a walnut shelf beside a tall window, a dusk cove and a pale sun beyond.

    Member ID

Send the member ID and date of birth from the card you have, and we ask whether Magellan manages the mental health benefit.

  3. A person standing in a wide shallow tide flat at low tide, back to camera, the wet sand mirroring a pale sun and a lilac sky.

    The plan

We ask how the plan treats PHP, IOP, and outpatient care, and we never guess at a copay while you wait.

  4. A small clay bowl and a sprig of dried coastal grass on a cream plaster windowsill, a dusk coastline and a pale sun through the window.

    Write back

Within one business day, we tell you what the plan said, and then you decide what to do next.

What we check

The levels of care we ask Magellan about

Exist runs three levels of care at one clinic, and each one is a separate question for the plan. Truth House is listed too, because insurance does not cover it and you should know that before you plan.

Talk to admissions
  1. PHP

Partial hospitalization is five full clinical days a week. We ask Magellan how the plan treats it for you.

    • Five days
    • Full day
  2. IOP

Intensive outpatient is three to five half days a week in the same clinic, and it is its own question for the plan.

    • Half day
    • Same clinic
  3. Outpatient

Weekly one-on-one sessions with a clinician, in person or virtual, for when a program day is more than you need.

    • 1:1
    • By appointment
  4. Truth House

Nights in Laguna Canyon for people already in Exist PHP or IOP. Insurance does not cover the house.

Paying with Magellan

Benefits vary by plan, so we check the plan behind your member ID instead of quoting a general answer. Verification is not a guarantee of payment, because the plan still reviews each claim.

  • What we check

PHP, IOP, and outpatient benefits for this member, including whether the plan treats Exist as in network or out of network.

  • What we never guess

We do not quote copays, deductibles, or day counts until the plan gives them to us for your member ID.

  • If insurance is not the path

Admissions can talk through private pay with you, or help with a referral if another program fits your plan better.
